Ring-in-Ring Bioreactor – an Innovative Solution for Biogas Plants
Technik Umwelt Vertrieb BG GmbH offers a modern engineering solution for the efficient fermentation of organic substrates — a ring-in-ring bioreactor. This unique design combines compactness, energy efficiency and optimized technological processes, which makes it in demand in modern biogas complexes.

Design and operating principle
The Ring-in-Ring bioreactor is a cylindrical container with a second concentric cylinder inside. This device forms two zones:
• outer ring — primary fermenter;
• inner ring — secondary fermenter.
Controlled circulation of the substrate is created between these zones due to hydrostatic pressure, stirrers or gas lift. This approach ensures:
• uniform mixing of the mass;
• minimization of dead zones;
• stable separation of the gas phase.

Key benefits
1. Compact and space-saving
The design combines the fermenter and post-fermenter in one volume, which reduces the requirements for the construction area.
2. Energy efficiency
o Insulated concrete ceiling reduces heat loss;
o The internal fermenter is additionally protected by an outer layer, which reduces the need for heating.
3. Reliability and ease of operation
o Convenient inspection hatches on the ceiling provide easy access for maintenance;
o Minimized heat loss and sediment formation.
4. Optimized flow
Short overflow and circulation pipelines ensure economical operation of the system.
5. Flexible use
The reactor is suitable for various types of substrates, including difficult-to-process ones (straw, bagasse, brewer's grain, agricultural waste).

Technological features
• Large heat exchange area: the possibility of placing heating circuits on the walls of both rings.
• Flexible hydrodynamics: adjusting the speed and direction of flows for specific processes.
• Fermentation stages: phase separation (hydrolysis → acidification → methanogenesis) for a more stable biogas yield.

Why choose the Ring-in-Ring system?
• More uniform loading of bacteria and high biological activity.
• Reduced risk of sedimentation at the bottom.
• Possibility of working even with viscous and difficult-to-decompose substrates.
• Increased service life of the equipment due to a well-thought-out engineering design.

The Ring-in-Ring bioreactor is an optimal combination of innovation and practicality. It allows you to increase the efficiency of a biogas plant, reduce operating costs and ensure stable energy production from organic waste.
